About the Author
Robert N. Anthony is the Ross Graham Walker Professor Emeritus of Management Control at Harvard Business School. Professor Anthony has been a director of Carborundum Company and Warnaco, Inc., both Fortune 500 companies; for 25 years he has been a trustee of Colby College, including five years as chairman of the board. He has consulted for many companies and government agencies, including General Motors Corp., AT&T, the General Accounting Office, and the Cost Accounting Standards Board. Among Professor Anthony’s awards are the Distinguished Accounting Educator of the Year Award from AAA, Accounting Educator of the Year Award from Beta Alpha Psi, the Meritorious Service Award from the Executive Office of the President, the Distinguished Public Service Medal of the Department of Defense, Comptroller General’s Award of the U.S. General Accounting Office and Distinguished Service Award of the Harvard Business School Association.
Kenneth A. Merchant holds the Chair of Accounting at the University of Southern California.
David Hawkins is a Full Professor at Harvard University, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1962. He would certainly be considered "old guard" at Harvard, where the accepted practice was to have a Harvard Ph.D., develop new courses, and eventually write innovative textbooks. Although this is no longer the norm at Harvard Business School, David maintains a strong reputation across the country as an innovative instructor and a good textbook author.

The reviews are true, this is a mediocre book

I had to purchase this book and since I'm not in the market to buy too many accounting texts, it's hard to say that this book is better or worse than other accounting textbooks. However, I have read many financial and business books and this one is mediocre at best. Sorry, just my opinion. There are many incomplete or random thoughts sprinkled throughout the text that it just makes you shake your head. You would think 900 pages would enable you to be pretty complete with concepts but this book falls short. If you have to buy this book, sorry, but if you are looking for a great book on accounting... look elsewhere.

Comprehensive but surprisingly relevant

Accounting: Texts and Cases is not your ordinary accounting text book. It successfully do away with the serious-type discussion that elicits a lot of zzzz's while reading. This book has combined detailed story-like presentation of issues and topics making Accounting concepts easier to understand. Numerous real-life examples and illustrations make the concepts more relevant.
How I hope that more textbooks are written this way. It gives learning a new twist making study more interesting. Again, after a long while, we find books like this that we wish we could keep beside our work tables to be used in the future. Curiously, the large space in the margins also provides a thoughtful space for comments and insights. Truly, this book has been designed to become a significant tool in learning accounting.
I've never look at accounting the way this book presented it. Quite satisfied and delighted with it.
