Maria Orsic is Croatian-Roman Catholic

I had bought the paperback version of this book from [...] and had mixed feelings about this book.

First, I would have given a rating of two stars for the book because of the writing, organization of material, and not backing up any statements with valid sources making the information credible. I have given 3 stars due to the interesting subject matter and exploration of Maria Orsic and Nikola Tesla along with UFO technology developed in NAZI germany.

Why I don't like the book?

1) The author Maximillian Lafayette has a reputation of being a far better writer in his past books but I don't understand why he has changed with his writing in the publication of this book.

2) The author never backs up his statements with any credible sources but just gives hearsay statements. Does Maria Orsic exist or is it just a lie of her identity? Where are the birth certificates, school papers, and baptismal christening? Later he writes the bombing campaign of the allies destroyed all records about Maria Orsic which doesn't help the inquiring reader see the credibility of the existence of Maria Orsic.

3)The author writes his book using bullet lists compiling of sentences relaying information of the subject matter. Its as if he just have written his book using Microsoft Office 2010 word and sent it out to the printing press at lulu . And those were only his notes but not his finished final copy. He alos uses alot of photos almost making the book look more like a collage with writing notes.

4)The author has not provided accurate data of the subject matter regarding the religion/ethnicities of Maria Orsic.
Coming from a mixed Croat/Serb background, I can confirm her identity. Maria Orsic coming from Yugoslavia which consisted of 6 republics and 2 provinces had a Croatian father named Tomislav Orsic and an Austrian mother named Sabine. Maria Orsic WAS NOT GREEK ORTHODOX. Maria Orsic was ROMAN CATHOLIC. Croatians and austrians are Roman Catholic. And to confirm this information, in Northwest Croatia, the Orsic Castle was buildt by Count Krsto Orsic in 1756 located in Krapina-Zagorje county. You can find this information using the internet. Furthermore, Maria Orsic's father's name is Tomislav Orsic. Tomislav is a common name used among croatians celebrating their forefather King Tomislav who created the Croatian nation in 910-928 AD.

5) I congradulate the author for recognizing the ethnicity of Nikola Tesla being an ethnic Serb Orthodox Christian from the Lika-Krajina region of Croatia. Nikola Tesla's father was a Serbian orthodox priest named Milutin Tesla. However, the author mistakened his religion to be Greek orthodox when his religion WAS SERBIAN ORTHODOX. The liturgy was conducted in the serbian language and not the greek language.

What I liked about the book?

1) I liked the book because it raises more questions about the subject matter than gives answers for future researchers.

2) I also liked the book because it had interesting photographs of historical characters and events from the 1920s, WWII and beyond not seen. There were many interesting photos of Nikola Tesla's nephew Sava Kosanovich, Josef Stalin and German Nazi officers.

3)The book provides more information for future research of the subject matter and understanding the material. Maria Orsic is a mysterious woman and we will not know much about her.

Pure Poorly Written Fantasies

This book is poorly written and takes for granted unsubstantiated stories. The style is really poor and the author never ever backs up his sources with true historical proofs. To make it short: this NOT an historical book but a pure fantasy book. At least it could have been presented as such. Separating historical facts from fiction in tyhe field of Nazi esotericism and occultism has been dealt with in a more relevant way in the good book Nazi Secrets.

Hard to find tid-bits

Finding anything about Maria Orsic is like hunting for the fabled unicorn. She existed in early 20th century for a short while and then she and her ladies vanished with out a trace. She left behind a remarkable story, and to this day much of the information about her is still suppressed secret information that many governments wish to keep secret - including the US government.

This is a two volume companion set. Both in a printed format. Each sold separately.

This is esoteric information with a historical context and real person connected to it. Do not believe the garbage coming from the History Channel and the like regarding Maria Orsic. The only way you can find tid-bits of truth about this woman, her organization, followers, and the successes they achieved in secret under the very nose of deadly jealous Heinrich Himmler, is by becoming your own sleuth and investigator. There are two separate volumes to this set. Number two is much harder to find in printed form. Unfortunately, volume one promises conclusions to questions that will be found in Vol. 2, but are never answered there. Vol.2 seems to have lost focus. Which seems to be a De Lafayette hallmark. Vol. 1&2 are a must for any serious Maria Orsic researcher. It is part of a mysterious grand puzzle that you have to find the pieces for and then try to reassemble. This is a good start towards that goal but no means the finale.

If you liked Packt's other thin QlikView books…

Packt has published most of the QlikView books out there, starting with the de facto "QlikView bible" by Garcia and Harmsen, and following up with (a) the substantial books by Stephen Redmond and (b) the thin, richly priced books by Karl Pover [ok], Tim Floyd [bad], Diane Blackwood [bad] and Christopher Ilaqua [bad].

"Creating Stunning Dashboards With QlikView" joins the (b) camp, and brings its average up. The book has an appealing informal, enthusiastic style, and talks about (i) dashboard design in general (think Tufte ultra-lite), (ii) QlikView's visual elements, and (ii) concrete QlikView tips. It is open-and-shut too sketchy for my taste - I would have gone for Garcia and Harmsen or Redmond; let me call the three authors "GHR" - but here is a more general reservation. By choosing not to discuss data, only the front-end, CSDQV rules itself out as one's "starter" QlikView book: it has to be the second at least. It is too junior for people who had read GHR, or the Wiley-published "QlikView Your Business". Who is left then - people who had gone for the other (b) titles? A suboptimal route if you ask me, but if you must try it, choose Karl Pover's book as its first leg.

if the document doesn't look nice people will not want to use it

This is an area of QlikView development that is often sadly overlooked. As a QlikView "gun for hire" I often pick up applications created by other developers and find even the most fundamental design errors made time and time again. It is this lack of attention to detail that can often sour peoples experience of QlikView. Simply put, if the document doesn't look nice people will not want to use it, and if they don't use it then it adds very little value.

This book focuses on the little details that can lift an application from being average (or worse) to being an application that makes the information jump off the screen. It promotes many of the same principles that I always preach, such as every detail matters and simplicity is king.

The book doesn't try to teach you how to use QlikView or give a holistic approach to dashboard design, there are other titles for these things, but it does focus of every individual detail of what you need to get right on each screen.

Jack does as he is told, and the cycle repeats for a number of years, until Jack decides one fall to bury both seeds. As Jack buries more and more seeds each consecutive year, readers are challenged with a series of questions ("How many seeds grew that year?"; "How many seeds did they bury?"). The mathematical gymnastics become even more rigorous as Jack marries, has a child, begins to store some seeds and sell others... until a hurricane wipes out the crops and Jack must begin all over again. Kindergarten-Grade 3?A happy-go-lucky young man and some magic seeds are the familiar elements of this deceptively simple tale. Anno provides the enchantment. An old man gives Jack two golden seeds and a simple formula for becoming self-sufficient. He faithfully follows the directions, eating one of the seeds, which amazingly takes care of his hunger for the year, and planting the other the following spring, which produces two new seeds. He enjoys several years of easy subsistence until he decides to fend for himself one winter and plant both seeds. The next and each successive season begin a geometric progression of harvests?2 sprouts produce 4 seeds (one of which he eats), 3 plants produce 6 seeds, 5 yield 10, etc. In no time at all, he has a bountiful surplus and shares his wealth first with Alice, who becomes his wife, and eventually their son. Even when a hurricane devastates their crops and storehouse, 10 seeds are saved and the family begins anew. Anno illustrates the multilayered story (and its mathematical operations) with his trademark spare, clear watercolors using metallic gold circles to represent the stored seeds and red ones for those that are consumed. Ages 5^-8. Jack meets a wizard who gives him two magic seeds and instructs him to eat one, which will

sustain him for a full year, and to plant the other. The following spring, the plant bears two seeds. Jack eats one and plants the other, as he does for several years until he determines to plant both seeds. The next year he has two plants each bearing two seeds, so he eats one seed and plants the other three. Six seeds! As the years go by, he marries, raises a family, plants many crops, endures a flood, and saves enough seeds to feed his family and start planting again. Told in folktale style, this symbolic story charts the development of agriculture. Teachers could use the eating, planting, harvesting, marketing, and storing of precise numbers of seeds as a mathematics lesson (though expect some confusion around the eighth year), but underlying the plot is a celebration of life's goodness and of the fundamental magic of planting a seed and watching it grow. From the first simple pictures of Jack and his plant to the last double-page spread echoing Millet's painting The Angelus, Anno's pleasing watercolor artwork illuminates this thoughtfully designed picture book. Using Math in the real world

Anno's Magic Seeds is yet another book written by Mitsumasa Anno that integrates literature with mathematics. This book is a useful tool for teachers attempting to provide a connection of math in the real world for their students. The story is enchanting and it certainly proved to be a creative way for beginning a math lesson- atleast it was for my 4th graders! I highly recommend this or any of Anno's books to stimulate children's interest in mathematics!

Math plus magic, and a little more

We loved this book. We got it from the library when my grandson was 5 and a lover of all things mathematical, as well as all things Anno. At first the story appears to be a tale about geometric progression, how quantities multiply: You get magic beans, 2 x 2 = 4, eat one, plant 3. Next year 3 x 2 = 6, eat one, plant 5. Next year 5 x 2 = 10, and so forth. But then the man gets married, so now there are two people to eat seeds. Still the progression continues. But man does not live on mathematics alone. There are human elements to the book that lift it out of the realm of textbook and almost to myth.
This book is not for everyone. Not all children enjoy mathematical concepts, and of those who do, not all of them will get this. But Anno's combination of higher math made simple, plus the love that infuses the simple story make this book a timeless treasure for those who get it.

Creative Math Lesson

Anno's books are great for teaching fun math lessons. I readthe book to my sixth graders and had them figure the answers to thequestions as we went. They loved it! They really have to listen carefully, so it makes a great lesson in listening skills as well.

Wow... just wow

Let me just add the disclaimer that I'm not a vegetarian, or a vegan for that matter. However growing up my mother was a vegetarian for a long time simply because she disliked the taste of meat. When she would include meat in our meals it was merely as a side dish for the fruits and veggies, never the centerpiece. Since I've started working out and eating right following Mike's other books(which I also highly recommend) I've added a lot of meat back into my diet. I enjoy it, but I've really been missing that plant based goodness. This book brings that to me in a fun, easy, and delicious way. I've only tried a few recipes so far but the "Cookie Dough" Oatmeal Cereal alone is worth the price of this book. I thought I had to forgo green on my plate to get enough protein, but the recipes in this book are packed with it. Bottom line, if you want good healthy vegetarian or vegan food to build the body of your dreams or just because you love the deliciousness, get this book.

Just what I needed

This is an excellent resource. I'm not a vegetarian per se, but I am trying to put on mass and I want to do it in a healthy manner. I should also mention that I have virtually no cooking experience but this book walks you through every step. Plus this book makes counting calories and macronutrients very simple because every meal has it all laid out for you. Highly recommended.

Simple but tasty recipes; good for omnivores, too!

I handle most of the cooking in my family, but my wife is now helping because she's gone back to being vegetarian. This book is FANTASTIC for people who are relatively new to cooking because it's not overwhelming; the ingredients are available in regular grocery stores and the recipes are easy to follow. For those of us who cook regularly, the recipes are also easy to modify if you want to get a bit more complex. I'm an omnivore and have found the recipes in this book to be both tasty and satisfying. We've cooked about half of the recipes so far and have some favorites on weekly rotation.

In the first decades following World War II, Americans rarely discussed the Holocaust. Now, remembering the Holocaust has become a fundamental part of Jewish identity; gentiles, too, view the Holocaust as a touchstone of moral solemnity. In The Holocaust and American Life, Peter Novick asks why, and his answers are both sensible and shocking. He explains the immediate postwar silence about the Holocaust by reviewing the basics of cold war politics: just after the liberation of the concentration camps, Americans were called upon to sympathize with "gallant Berliners" who resisted the Soviets and built a wall against Communism--an "enormous shift from one set of alignments to another," Novick notes. Novick then leads readers through the series of events that brought the Holocaust to the forefront of American consciousness--the trial of Adolph Eichmann, the Six-Day War, the Carter administration's Israel policy, and the construction of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.

Among Novick's most controversial ideas is his assertion that American Jews spoke softly of the Holocaust at first because they didn't want to be seen as victims; later, Jews decided that victim status would work in their best political interest. Or, as Novick puts it, "Jews were intent on permanent possession of the gold medal in the Victimization Olympics." The Holocaust in American Life is as carefully researched and argued as it is polemical and probing. Novick does not suffer Holocaust deniers lightly, and he is empathic toward victims and survivors, but he has no tolerance for false sentiment. In this unsettling and fascinating work, Novick, a Jew and a professor of history at the University of Chicago, examines how a variety of domestic and foreign events have moved Holocaust consciousness to the center of American life and kept it there. The author unhesitatingly probes touchy subjects, including the role of Holocaust consciousness in cold war politics, the "uniqueness" of the Holocaust, and even the supposed "obsession" of American Jews (few of whom are Holocaust survivors) with the Holocaust. An exceptionally interesting, prodigiously researched study of how the Holocaust has been understood and the uses to which it has been put, in Americanparticularly American Jewishpolitical, communal, and intellectual affairs. Novick (History/Univ. of Chicago; The Resistance Versus Vichy, not reviewed) notes that until about 1965, the Holocaust was marginalized in American life, subsumed under the Cold Wars political dynamics, as well as its cultural and pedagogic agenda. A wide variety of forces, from the Eichmann trial to the rise of identity politics and concomitant focus on victimization, led to the Holocaust becoming centered in American life. In the 1980s and particularly the 90s, with Holocaust education made compulsory in the high schools of several states, the erection of Holocaust memorials, and the opening of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., it came to have transcendent status as the bearer of eternal truths or lessons that could be derived from contemplating it. American Jewish leaders were instrumental in furthering this process, both to garner support for Israel and as part of their effort to deter assimilation. The Holocaust has achieved, in one of Novicks more polemically charged phrases, a perverse sacralization. Yet parts of his book seem to argue against this thesis, or at least to demonstrate that Holocaust- centeredness may be an ephemeral phenomenon. Novick notes how superficial, and sometimes opportunistic or manipulative, allusions to the Holocaust from both ends of the political spectrum have been; he wonders how long it will be before Holocaust memorials become part of the tuned-out urban background; and he maintains that the memory of the Shoah has had a negligible influence on Washingtons response to genocide in places like Biafra and Cambodia. Concerning Americas hesitant response to Serb atrocities in Bosnia, for example, he asserts that the lessons of Vietnam . . . easily trumped the lessons of Holocaust. A thought-provoking intellectual history, well presented

This is one of the most intellectually stimulating books I have ever encountered. While few people with probably agree with everything the author has to say, he has written a thoughtful, thoroughly researched examination of how the idea of the Holocaust--and popular thinking about that tragedy among both Jewish and Gentile Americans--has evolved over the 60 years since the outbreak of World War II. He also has the courage to challenge conventional thinking as well as the beliefs of generally revered leaders like David Ben Gurion and Elie Wiesel.
The book does an excellent job of linking popular thinking about the Holocaust with concurrent historical trends and developments, including the more intense American focus on the Pacific as opposed to the European theatre for much of the war, the lack of appreciation during and immediately after the war for the immensity of the Jewish genocide, the emergence of the Cold War (together with the "discovery" of common totalitarian threads between Nazism and Stalinism), the "rehabilitation" of Germany after Stalin took over Eastern Europe, changing views about "victimization" in American popular culture, the Eichmann trial in Jerusalem and Hannah Arendt's controversial analysis of it, the Arab-Israeli Wars of 1967 and 1973, as well as the decline in American anti-semitism in general at the same time that radical black activists were employing anti-Jewish rhetoric.
One of the most important contributions of the book is its discussion of the alleged "uniqueness" of the Holocaust, which the author shows to be both historically inaccurate and dangerous in leading down the slippery slope where any other more recent catastrophes and disasters are minimized in comparison. Rich with example and documentation--the footnotes and endnotes should be read, too--the book is one I expect to return to in the future. Broad in its scope and well-written, it is generally quite persuasive in the arguments it advances.
I would concur with those critics who fault the author's occasionally overly colloquial style, especially when he is discussing Holocaust deniers. His dismissal of them as "kooks" and "nut cases" detracts from the generally strong case he makes against them.

Will shake up your beliefs

Before reading this book, some of the things I knew about the Holocaust were that (1) the Allied military ignored the pleas of Jewish groups to bomb Auschwitz... (2) Bombing the rail lines to Auschwitz would have saved Jewish lives... (3) American guilt about failure to rescue Jews was an important factor in US support for the State of Israel in 1948... (4) The very existence of Israel was in peril during the 1967 and 1973 wars...
Novick argues (convincingly to me) that these, and a bunch of other things that I'd always assumed, are simply wrong. And I'm not just talking about the "soap factory" stories. The "political message" of the Holocaust (like most other things) often doesn't have much to do with "historical truth".
An earlier reviewer comments on the issue of the uniqueness of the Holocaust: actually, Novick does discuss this issue at some length, arguing convincingly that the whole issue is quite vacuous... uniqueness is a rhetorical rather than a historical matter.
I'm a little surprised that there hasn't been more of a media uproar over this book: it's a lot *more* controversial than Goldhagen's book of a few years ago (Hitler's Willing Executioners). Maybe the storm just hasn't broken yet?

Peter Joseph's work is the most honest, inspirational, liberating, and compassionate media I have come across. I consider myself a business professional, one-time theist, and a veteran of corporate politics. His work not only identifies the problems of these modern systems that leave so many of us behind, but it also instills a sense of urgency while also instilling a sense of peace, inspiring oneself to serve a much grander purpose than just self placation. His work transcends ruling political and economic ideologies while providing realistic and inspirational solutions for everyone. I don't say this lightly as I am skeptical of anything and everything, but Peter's work holds ground under the scrutiny of social science and methodology. He has become a hero of mine in many many ways. Nice work and thank you, Peter.

This is perhaps the most important book of our times. It is said that you cannot learn truth through the lens of a lie, this book provides the lens necessary to understand every major global issue we face as human beings and as a society. At a time when false symbolism is all and we are witnessing the implosion of truth, this book scientifically and methodologically cuts through the formaldehyde of identity politics, capitalism-spawned abominations, concealed class warfare, structural violence, systematic poverty, ceaseless misinformation, and droves of opinion-pissing human clickbaiters by giving the reader a deep understanding of causality and backing those conclusions with empirical evidence.

It is both a treasure-trove of information and more importantly, an action plan to end the deathscape of endemic poverty, unsustainable wealth inequality, and environmental destruction. Not only should the public be aware of the information provided in this book, but it should be required reading and placed on the desks of every major global institution, governing bodies, educational institutions, think thanks, and so on. It is our only chance at moving towards a survivable future.

John Marrs is a freelance journalist based in London, England, who has spent the last 20 years interviewing celebrities from the world of television, film and music for national newspapers and magazines.
He has written for publications including The Guardian's Guide and Guardian Online; OK! Magazine; Total Film; Empire; Q; GT; The Independent; Star; Reveal; Company; Daily Star and News of the World's Sunday Magazine.
His debut novel The Wronged Sons, was released in 2013 and in May 2015, he released his second book, Welcome To Wherever You Are.

I absolutely loved this book

I absolutely loved this book, loved it, loved it, loved it. Oh yeah did I mention how much I love this book?

I first came across this author in The Book Club as everyone was raving about his first book The Wronged Sons which I enjoyed but have got to say Welcome To Wherever You Are just blew me away.

2015 is proving to be a great year for books as I've already read quite a few books already this year that are firm favourites and this one has just flown up there with them.

Welcome To Wherever You Are is a story mainly based in a hostel and focuses on the guests and the staff that work there. The story flicks between each character in their past and present lives. Even though it is quite a fast paced story and flicks back and forth and jumps to different people, it is really easy to keep up with and read.

The opening chapter of this book as with John's first book just grabbed me straight away after that I was hooked and couldn't put it down until I had read it all.

There are some great characters in this book, my favourites being Tommy, Savannah and Nicole, I loved the strength and vulnerability that each of these characters portrayed.

The storyline is just a brilliant idea and unlike any other books I have read, the second half of this book has so many twists and turns that by the end I felt like the author had taken me on an emotional roller coaster ride.

Welcome To Wherever You Are is a fantastic story and a must read.

A Long and Twisty Journey to Get to Wherever You Are

I was a big fan of the recent TV series "Lost," and the one thing that intrigued me more than anything else on the show was how all the characters' lives intersected. Over the course of its run, as the writers revealed more and more of the characters' pasts through intricate flashbacks, viewers came to expect that the various storylines would weave together in unexpected but always fascinating ways. From the writer's standpoint, such a complex plot is extremely difficult to pull off without either completely confusing readers or, on the other hand, losing that requisite degree of plausibility that allows readers to suspend their disbelief at the enormous coincidences involved. Few novels attempt such a tricky plot structure, and even fewer pull it off. John Marrs's "Welcome to Wherever You Are" is the closest I've read to "Lost"-style plotting, without smoke monsters and seemingly supernatural forces, but with some inventive storytelling.

In the case of Marrs's characters, wherever you are happens to be the Venice Beach International Hostel, a dump of a motel that caters to those without much money to spend, and, in many cases, without much of a life as well. As the various tenants at the hostel begin checking in, Marrs starts filling readers in on their pasts in a series of flashbacks for each main character. Going back a year or two in each case, Marrs sketches in their backstories, some of which seem fairly routine, and others quite bizarre. Among them are a former English nurse who has come to Los Angeles on a quest to learn more about a now deceased elderly patient, the runaway daughter of a televangelist who has found employment as a stripper, and the gay former lead singer of a boy band whose musical career ended in a drug scandal a couple of years earlier.

In each case, Marrs takes his time telling the story. Usually, his characters are in no hurry, and neither is he. After the first couple of chapters, he begins using flashbacks extensivley, but they are clearly labeled and, after the first time he uses the technique, fairly easy to follow. Each character soon has two parallel storylines, one in the present day and one gradually filling in the details from the past. Surprisingly, at least for me at least, most of the characters were not stereotypes but quite well developed, especially as the story went along. "Wherever You Are" does require a bit of patience on the parts of readers, as it takes a while for some of the storylines to come into focus, but by about the one-third point in the book, readers will have a pretty good idea who's who and will be eagerly anticipating what happens next.

As I mentioned earlier, what happens next often involves intersecting storylines, as some of these characters met up with others in the past, unbeknownst to them, and the actions that some take in the present also have unforeseen consequences. I realize that this description is very broad, but I don't want to give any of the clever plot twists away. Most books are lucky if they have one good surprise; "Wherever You Are" easily has a dozen, most of which will come as major shockers. As the book progresses, readers will become more and more fascinated as they anticipate the next gotcha moment in the book.

Obviously, in a book like this, some characters and storylines fare better than others. Only one character, the stripper, was a major disappointment for me. She is one of the few American characters in the book (the hostel seems to be a magnet for expats and Marrs, who is British, clearly feels more at home writing about people with whose backgrounds he feels more familiar). The stripper, and especially her cartoonishly racist televangelist father, struck me as nothing more than crude stereotypes. Fortunately, Marrs gives readers a lot of other characters to spend time with as well.

"Welcome to Wherever You Are" is on one level an elaborately intricate gimmick, but it's also a deeply personal drama with a number of interesting and fascinating characters. Amazon rather unfairly in my opinion characterizes the book as crime fiction, but, while some of the storylines involve various sorts of criminal activity, the book is much more than a simple mystery or procedural. "Welcome to Wherever You Are" is a journey, both for the characters who have come quite a long way, both literally and figuratively, to wind up at the hostel, and for the readers who travel on an equally fascinating 400-page path to get to know them.

It took me a while to get into the story ...

It took me a while to get into the story and even longer to even care a jot for the characters, but all of a sudden it grabbed me. I found myself thinking about it during the day and couldn't wait to get back to it and I haven't done that with a book in a long time.
