About the Author
Lyle C. Brown is professor emeritus of political science at Baylor University, where he served as departmental director of graduate studies and director of Baylor's Foreign Service Program. His international academic experience includes teaching at Mexico City College (now University of the Americas) and postgraduate study at the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico. He received his M.A. from the University of Oklahoma and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Brown served as president of the Southwest Council of Latin American Studies. His writing experience includes coediting Religion in Latin American Life and Literature and authoring numerous articles.

Joyce Langenegger teaches government at Blinn College and is the college's director of professional development. She received M.A. and J.D. degrees from Baylor University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Fielding Graduate University. Dr. Langenegger has been named to "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" and received a NISOD Award for Teaching Excellence, Teacher of the Year for Blinn College-Bryan, and "Most Valuable Player" award from San Jacinto College for her work as a professor and administrator at that institution. She is a frequent workshop presenter on innovative teaching strategies. Before beginning her teaching career, she practiced law in Houston.

Sonia Garcia, Ph.D., University of California, Santa Barbara, is Chair of the Political Science Department at St. Mary's University. She has published articles on Latina politics and is a co-author of MEXICAN AMERICANS & THE LAW: EL PUEBLO UNIDO JAMÁS SERÁ VENCIDO (2004). Sonia also is the lead author of POLITICAS: LATINA PUBLIC OFFICIALS IN TEXAS (2007), which examines the first Mexican-American women elected to public office in Texas from various levels of offices.

Ted Lewis, Ph.D., University of Texas at Austin, is Vice President of Academic Affairs at Pellissippi State Community College. He has taught government and political science at the college level for nearly 30 years. He was previously dean of instruction at Loan Star College-Cyfair and Professor, Chair of the Political Science Department, and Director of the Learning Communities Program at Collin County Community College. Dr. Lewis has conducted workshops on Texas election procedure for the Texas Secretary of State and has served as a county party chairperson, on state political party executive committees, and on several statewide candidate campaign advisory committees. He has delivered numerous national presentations and has published articles in such journals as the Community College Journal of Research and Practice, the Journal of the League for Innovation in the Community College, and the National Social Science Journal. He is listed in both WHO'S WHO IN AMERICAN POLITICS and WHO'S WHO AMONG AMERICA'S TEACHERS.

Robert E. Biles, professor emeritus and former chair of political science at Sam Houston State University, has taught college students about Texas politics in Texas, Colombia, and Ecuador. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. from The Johns Hopkins University-School of Advanced International Studies. Dr. Biles is the author of numerous books and articles. His involvement in politics includes serving as a school board member, county party chair, county election supervisor, and staff member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He has advised state agencies and held leadership positions in statewide lobbying groups and professional organizations. Dr. Biles has received four Fulbright grants, as well as awards for his research, teaching, and administrative service.

I hate that you have to put it in a binder

I hate that you have to put it in a binder! It's not like a hardcover book with the spine of the book. It has all the information but it's still annoying because the pages can rip easily out of the binder you have!

Smart as a whip!

This title is a translation of Spanish Author Abalos' analysis and disection of the core tenets of modernism by way of the international style, and other movements. I am really provoked and grateful for one chapter which is an essay on the unrelenting domicile in the Jaques Tati Film Mon Oncle as seen through the filter of positivism (in which all endeavor to bring us into the future with a unflinching trust in science & technology) is canny and amusing. I only stumbled across this book while avoiding my required architecture reading (David Hickey's Air Guitar, which I didn't get much out of) and found it slow going at first, but with patience I found that Abalos provides you with much of the foundation you will need to proceed. It can't hurt to have seen some of Jacques Tati's films or even parts of them. I must get my hands on a copy of this book. An intellectually rewarding treat.

In order to choose the houses to visit it was necessary to narrow things down, simplify them, by highlighting a series of archetypes defined by their most pronounced features. The reader, then, won't find any of the masterworks built by modern architects -neither the Villa Savoye, nor Fallingwater, nor the Villa Tugendhat-but mostly imaginary houses, houses constructed by manipulating different references. I�aki �balos (San Sebastian, 1956) graduated as an architect from the ETSAM in 1978. In 1984 he formed a partnership with Juan Herreros (�balos & Herreros), and since then they have written Le Corbusier. Rascacielos (1987), T�cnica y arquitectura en la ciudad contempor�nea (1992) and Natural-Artificial (1999). Their buildings and projects have been featured in many different publications.

We should expect more from Lonely Planet

I drove around Provence and southeast France for a couple of weeks several years ago (and had an unforgettable time!), so I was excited to have the chance to review this book. As I started to read this guide book, I started nodding and thinking "ok, not great, but not bad either" ... but then I had to stop myself and say: if I was writing a guide book for a road trip around the south of France from scratch, would I write it this way? The answer is no, not at all. Not to be cynical, but it's as if Lonely Planet thought "ok, how can we take our existing guide books and re-package them for a specialized audience with a minimum amount of effort?" Most of the information in this book is in identical or near-identical form in their regular guide books. I appreciate that they added a little bit more driving-specific information, but what they have is barely sufficient. Again, if you were writing a guide from scratch, I'd expect more.

For example, I like the themed itineraries and "The Drive" descriptions linking point A to point B, but they don't really give advice for how to actually execute the logistics. In other words, should I try to do a particular itinerary in a linear fashion (unlikely), or should I base myself in one or two cities and do day trips from them? Likewise, the "start" and "end" points don't make a whole lot of sense, given that most people will need to start and finish in a larger city with air or rail links. Moreover, while the itinerary themes were cute, why not include a "best of" tour that allows one to have Roman ruins, lavender, AND art rather than have to choose one theme or the other? The book doesn't help you to prioritize if you wanted to do some kind of "hybrid" trip that mixed-and-matched a few different suggested itineraries.

Another major issue: the maps are few and far between, and lack the necessary detail. Most of them are too "zoomed out" (for general orientation) or too "zoomed in" (for walking around the city center) to use for driving. Again, great for a regular tour book, but not for a book specializing in road trips. Michelin maps are great, and you'll need one if you just have this LP guide (which really is inexcusable--if you're going to market this as a "road trip" guide, it should have all the maps you need to actually do the road trips!).

The destination guides are a bit skimpy as well. For a book focusing on a specific region, you'd expect it to have all the detail you'd need to choose where to go. Instead, it comes up lacking. As just one example, it completely omits Avignon! Avignon's an interesting and important destination ... this is a short book as it is, so what would it have hurt to add a couple of pages here and there? If this is a guide meant to be used while driving, it doesn't need to be pocket sized--in fact, road atlas-sized might be better!

In the end, I just can't recommend this guide. Instead, get the Michelin map for this region and a regular guide book--the regular LP if you must, but I'd recommend Rick Steves' guide much more highly, or the Eyewitness Guide if you'd prefer more illustrations. Try harder next time, LP!

Repackaged Once Again

In this 126 page book, mostly lifted From France country guide and France Discover, 18 pages in the back are exactly the same as that of "Chateaux of the Loire Valley Road Trips" (Ok, so one line is off, pushing back the formatting a bit to hopefully fool you). Also a few pages in front are the same stuff you get in every LP. After an extended version of their typical itineraries section, which looks a bit like their Discover series because of the extra pictures, it just moves on to "Destinations", which is a condensed version of their regular country guide (when they were in color for a short time).

Also, these few hundred km max drives don't really strike me as a road trip. "Road Trip" has me thinking exciting 6000km loops around the top half of Argentina or most of Turkey, not a spec of France. And they have a section on "driving", which sort of makes sense, except what is there to know about driving in France? It's the same as anywhere else in the West with no particular dangers or pitfalls.

Lonely Planet is no longer a couple of happy hippies, they're a giant corporation who want all your money, even if it means manufacturing an entire new line of books right from the desktop with staple footage. I'm continuously amazed how many books repackage the same material.

It's really okay. It's fun to look at for a few minutes. But why bother?

Very, very basic stuff - 3-

How much info do you need when you travel? If just need a few suggestions and general directions, this mini-guide from Lonely Planet might work for you.

It's well-written but very limited in scope and detailed information. A quick look at the SE corner of France AKA the Riviera or Cote d'Azur. I know the region pretty well and there are a lot of interesting spots left out of this guide. Its limitations extend to restaurants and hotels as well. Given that many travelers now use the Internet to find the latter places, that probably isn't such a great drawback. To sum up, this guide is probably best for getting some general ideas of where to go and what to see in the region, but additional info--maybe from a Michelin Green Guide--will be needed to fill in the blanks.

There is a map of the region included with the guide but it only shows a main route or two and won't be helpful for driving in big towns and cities or on jaunts outside those locations.

Bought this as a supplement to the Bluebook. The examples can be a little hard to follow and not have enough information on a certain topic. However, with this, the Bluebook, UMB, and Coregrammarforlawyers.com (highly recommend) you should be set!!

Anyone familiar with Garner's work will be unsurprised by this pithy, essential guide to legal writing. If I see lawyers do something two different ways, I refer to this book to find out which is right. You can be a good lawyer without being a good writer, but it's certainly easier to be a good lawyer if you are a good writer. You owe good writing to your readers, whether judges, clients, or other lawyers.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel!

This book is very motivating. I got a lot of great tips about saving money and paying off debt that I am already implementing. The book flows very easily and can be applied to anyone in any economical situation. It makes an older saver feel hopeful that his/her economic situation can improve by following the many practical suggestions offered. I did not give it five stars only because a lot has changed in the financial world since it was written ie, the ease with which to obtain mortgages, etc. No fault of Mr. Bach of course, he's done a wonderful job of getting me to save more, spend less, and chip away at debt. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who feels it's too late to get their finances in better shape.

simple logic

This book taught me that I didn't need to be afraid of the fact that I had not managed my finances properly throughout my life - and that at age 61 it's not too late to start building a nest egg towards financial freedom.

Bach's book is simple to follow, logical, and immensely motivational. My only regret is that several chapters talk about Institutions and support in the USA. I live in South Africa therefore these parts of the book were not relevant to me. But Bach gave me the leads to research the equivalent institutions in my own country.

I recommend the book to anyone who, like me, has fooled themselves by thinking all their working lives that money is not important. It's a crucial aspect of wellbeing!

I am 65 and benefiting from David Bach's books

In almost all of David Bach's books, he describes a file system for your financial files. I had a file system. But when the file cabinet broke, and after I started putting my important papers in folders in boxes, and then they filled up and I left them on top of a table... the paper fire hazard finally had to be dealt with. Although I didn't follow his system literally, it inspired me to scan all this rubble and organize it in my computer (about 1 month of effort). The very personal files (those with Social Security numbers and account numbers) are stored on my Iron Key. The paper in the living room is nearly gone by now, and I can find my documents all the way back to 2004 instantly and easily.

If you are young, any of David Bach's books will be helpful regardless of their title. You are never too young to start saving, and he has great advice on how much, how and when to do this. Goals such as retirement and college are important. But if you just start building your financial portfolio as early as you can, you almost won't need to worry about the goals - the money will be there when you need it. David Bach also helps you to differentiate need from want, and identifies what "wants" waste your hard earned money.

I recommend the Finish Rich series for everyone, young and old alike. These books are must haves!

Description said spiral bound which the book wasn't. The cover of the book I received was totally different than the one advertised. The pages match up identically but I wanted the spiral book due to less wear and tear.
