About the Author
Bob Gardner is a long-admired member of the aviation community. He began his flying career as a hobby in Alaska in 1960 while in the U.S. Coast Guard. By 1966, Bob earned his Private land and sea, Commercial, Instrument, Instructor, CFII, and MEL. Over the next 16 years he was an instructor, charter pilot, corporate and freight Captain, and Director of ASA Ground Schools.

Currently, Bob holds an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with single and multi-engine land ratings; a CFI certificate with instrument and multi-engine land ratings; and a Ground Instructor's Certificate with advanced and instrument ratings. In addition, Bob is a Gold Seal Instructor and has been instructing since 1968. To top off this impressive list of accomplishments, Bob is also a well-known author, journalist, and airshow lecturer.

This is a great book. It's full of information on flight communications. Basic and professionally, it covers it all. Love how it's easy to read and easier to understand. Nothing beats the real thing, but this really gets you ready for that. A must buy for the student pilot.

Good essential book

This book covers most communication scenarios between ATC and Private pilots. It gives useful examples for common dialogs and helps pilots expect ATC responses. I think overall a good read with positive results on radio communication skills and confidence. This book also covers IFR dialogs during approaches.

This is an excellent resource for student pilots like myself that are not necessarily having trouble knowing what to say to ATC, rather, what kind of reply to expect from ATC.

Even if you are nearing the end of pilot training, buy this book, read the chapters covering the class of airspace that you most frequently fly in, and reap the benefits of feeling more comfortable on the radio.

The radio is a world of its own, and is a big one too. You can't study about it enough.

Dürrenmatt once wrote of himself: “I can best be understood if one grasps grotesqueness,” and The Visit is a consummate, alarming Dürrenmatt blend of hilarity, horror, and vertigo. The play takes place “somewhere in Central Europe” and tells of an elderly millionairess who, merely on the promise of her millions, swiftly turns a depressed area into a boom town. But the condition attached to her largesse, which the locals learn of only after they are enmeshed, is murder. Dürrenmatt has fashioned a macabre and entertaining parable that is a scathing indictment of the power of greed and confronts the perennial questions of honor, loyalty, and community.

About the Author
Friedrich Durrenmatt was born in Switzerland in 1921 and has long been considered one of the world's leading German-language playwrights. His plays have received international acclaim, with The Visit, Romulus the Great, and The Physicists having been performed on Broadway and in major capitals throughout the world. Dürrenmatt’s concerns are timeless, but they are also the product of his Swiss vantage during the cold war: his key plays explore such themes as guilt by passivity, the refusal of responsibility, greed and political decay, and the tension between justice and freedom. Durrenmatt died in December 1990.


Joel Agee is the author of two memoirs, Twelve Years: An American Boyhood in East Germany and In The House Of My Fear. His translations of Heinrich von Kleist's Penthesilea and Hans Erich Nossack's Der Untergang won the Helen and Kurt Wolff Prize and the Lois Roth Prize of the Modern Language Association, respectively. In 2007 he was a finalist for the Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize and received the Alta National Translation for his translation of the Selected Writings of Friedrich Dürrenmatt.

Thought Provoking

I first read this in college when I was studying European Literature and wanted to read it again. I really think Durrenmatt is on to something. When people say "It's not the money, it's the principal," it's actually usually about the money. This book examines that hypocrisy.

I didn't expect to, but I liked it.

This was a great story. I read it for a college course and I did not expect to like it. But I'm glad I had to read it, otherwise I never would found this book because it is not like the kind of books I seek out to read.
