Impressive undertaking Reviewer: Merry Beeson from Tulsa, Ok USA I have been using the book for a folk healing class at the university level. The short reviews and the amazing pictures provide an excellent foundation to the course. I wish it were less expensive I would ask all the students to buy it. The pictures are powerful. It drives home our commonalities and gives land locked students access to other worlds.

Martha Sajatovic, M.D., is a professor of psychiatry and neurology at Case Western Reserve University. She is also director of the Neurological Outcomes Center at University Hospitals Case Medical Center and is coeditor of Bipolar Disorder in Later Life, also published by Johns Hopkins. Luis F. Ramirez, M.D., is an associate professor of psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University.

Silberg presents a variety of songs, action rhymes, clapping games, and activities, each labeled for age appropriateness and educational value. She clearly loves her subject and tries to communicate the ways that music can enrich the lives of children and parents. However, her unflagging attention to each activity's educational value results in the repetition of many self-evident phrases, such as "develops listening skills." Contrary to the title, this is not a how-to on singing. Instead, it offers many wonderful suggestions for music activities that will probably appeal more to adults who already feel comfortable using music in their programming. For the uninitiated, many of the suggestions that are no doubt accessible when demonstrated in the author's workshops are a bit flat on the written page. The lack of resources, such as a list of music recordings, is an additional problem.

This book is a great source to have if you care for young children. It offers a selection of age appropriate things to do in rythyme with your children. This book has all of the words to those songs that you sung as a child as well as some new songs. If you desire to make your own musical instruments then this book is for you. There are plenty of instruments to make using available household materials. I recomend this book to parents, day-care providers and teachers of young children. It is a great book!

Emanuele Palazzetti

Emanuele Palazzetti is a software developer with strong JavaScript knowledge and a solid background in Python development. Part of his job entails taking care of backend web applications mostly built with the Django web framework. In the past few years, he has delved into many well-known frontend frameworks, such as AngularJS and EmberJS, to strengthen his JavaScript knowledge. Being a former Java developer, he leveraged his previous knowledge and started working on Android; by combining his interest on electronics and embedded devices with the well-known mobile platform, he managed to build several prototypes and small physical applications. He currently works at Evonove, a small company where he has been leading a number of frontend software projects mostly based on the AngularJS framework. He is also an open source advocate, active contributor, and speaker at Python and Android conferences. He writes about JavaScript and other development stuff at http://palazzetti.me.

A "must have" for those taking their first steps with a board Arduino-based UDOO as well as for those who do not know the world of programming Android. The examples and the exercises are clear and well explained, and gradually introduce all the concepts necessary to work on both UDOO and Android.

In my opinion is a great reference for those who already had experience with UDOO / Android. Some of the exercises presented may also be of interest to the more experienced developers.

Quite good. Unfortunately, like many tech books, doesn't (yet?) cover the most recent versions of UDOO products, but a thorough start in the Quad and Dual (which as of this writing are still reasonably available.) Look forward to a revision to cover Neo and the x86!

A Godsend for Working Scientists

I judge the usefulness of a book by how quickly I can learn something new and apply it to the problem I am currently working on. Most statistics books, judged by this criteria, fail miserably. But here is a book that not only succeeds, but succeeds so well I actually find myself getting excited about reading the next chapter, which has nothing to do with the problem at hand! By confining himself to just a handful of simple data sets, Wilks makes it possible to work though the examples in detail and in a variety of ways. But the most important benefit to me is that I can immediately turn his examples into software code (I use IDL), which I can use to solve my problem. Unlike so many books, which provide the broad theoretical strokes, but leave the details in shadow, Wilks explains the details in simple, straightforward language. His explanation of harmonic analysis and FFT spectral analysis was so crystal clear I believe it was the first time I thought I truly understood this important concept. I can imagine there will be statisticians who will not like this book. But for those of us working with environmental data who need to know some statistics to get our work done, this book is a godsend.

Very useful text and reference

Like the first edition, this book is an excellent and thorough overview of statistical methods used in the atmospheric sciences.

The main updates which are included in the second edition are the six final chapters (chapters 9-14) which cover multi-variate statistical methods as an expansion of that covered in one chapter of the first edition.

An excellent reference text for many geophysical researchers.
