Catherine is the first and when her husband ups and leaves she feels like she is starting all over again

Three women are the focus in this latest Lucy Diamond release. Catherine is the first and when her husband ups and leaves she feels like she is starting all over again. We also meet Anna who has recently discovered her father who she has never known is Italian, and then Sophie who has returned from her many years abroad to see her ill father. The three women will meet through the Italian language course they all decide to be a part of.

The three women’s stories are told individually and you really get to know each of them before they eventually meet. Anna and Sophie I instantly liked, but for some reason I wanted Catherine to grow a backbone and she annoyed me for the first few chapters. However, when she starts to make changes to her life I warmed up to her. Sophie was my favourite and I loved the way the reader gets to discover slowly why she left the UK, and why her relationship with her parents had gone so wrong. Anna was a funny and warm character and you couldn’t help but get swept along with her in her dream to find out about her Italian roots.

The story flowed beautifully and I was transported into all of their lives and willing them to all get what they wanted out of their classes. In addition to the three main characters we also meet some of the characters at their class, and they definitely made the book complete in my eyes. Once again Lucy Diamond has managed to create a heart-warming story, which takes you away from reality for a few hours. I read this in just under 2 days and really enjoyed it. Certainly a recommended read, although ‘Summer With My Sister’ will always remain my absolute favourite!

One Night in Italy

Three different women are drawn to an evening Italian class, and although their life circumstances and reasons for wanting to learn Italian vary greatly, the common meeting place of the class allows them to share their hopes and dreams with each other. The instructor, Sophie, has returned home to England to care for her ailing father after years of travelling the world and working odd jobs in places like Australia and Sorrento. With her whole life and career ahead of her, she's not sure where to turn next. In a similar state of limbo is Catherine, who has just sent her two children off to University and split up with her cheating husband. In all the years of being a mum and a wife, she's lost who she really is and what her own interests are. Anna has recently learned that her father is Italian and is soaking up everything about Italian culture and dreaming of flying to Italy to meet him one day.

This was a fun book, it's funny but has enough serious moments to make an interesting plot. Each of the characters had some aspect of their personality that I could relate to and the other characters besides the main three are delightful as well, I especially enjoyed Roy and Geraldine from the Italian class. As an added bonus, each chapter starts with an Italian phrase followed by the English translation so the reader picks up a couple of Italian words as well. A great vacation read.

I was really happy when I got accepted for this book on NG J This was the first Lucy Diamond book for my to read and I’m glad I did, there will be much more, she’s an awesome writer.

I have a strong connection to Italy so this was really special for me to read about. I loved that all the chapters had an Italian title.

The book tells us the story of three different women, who meet at an Italian class in Sheffield: Sophie, Anna and Catherine.
Sophie is their teacher, she recently came to England, because her father is ill. She spent the last two years in Italy and before she lived in Australia. She has a lot of memories from that time, especially a broken heart. And her heart still seems to be broken, because of Dan, and now he’s back in Manchester…

Anna is a journalist and has just found out that her dad is Italian. She is determined to find out more and most of all she wants to find him. So she goes to the Italian class, but that’s not all: Her boyfriend Pete seems boring and then she finds about more about what he’s been up to. She also gets the opportunity to write restaurant reviews for the journal and she spends more time with her colleague Joe. Misunderstandings and drama comes up because of the review she writes. Let’s see from there…
I really liked her energy and her passion!!!

Last but not least, there is Catherine. She’s married and has two kids at University. As soon as their gone, she finds her husband Mike cheating and he leaves her. She is heart broken and sad. Only after a while she wants to change her life and do something with it, so she goes to the Italian class. She also finds out more about what her husband was doing behind her back.

The stories of these three ladies are all connected somehow, which was great and really enjoyable to read about.

All three women are figuring out what they want in life and all in a total different way. I was hoping for at least ne of them to get to Italy and Anna made it. It was also there, where her new life began! I loved her story. She expressed her feelings in her articles and found her luck.
Sophie started acting again and I liked the way she changed after that, like she was glowing and then Dan turned up at the premiere…
As for Catherine, also her story developed and she realised how much her children mean to her.

Lucy has a wonderful way of writing; it’s bubbly, funny, thoughtful and entertaining!

An excellent commentary - but read critically

Lincoln's thought is clear, lucid and intelligible, which helps him explain what can be one of the more convoluted and enigmatic books in the NT. Now, clarity should not be confused with brevity. This is one of the longer commentaries in the Word series on one of the epistles. Lincoln's arguments are finely nuanced and require much of a reader. But in the end, it is worthwhile.
Lincoln rarely engages in sustained polemic against those who hold to positions with which he disagrees, but rather deals with them and offers whatever explanation he favors expeditiously. His knowledge of koine Greek and textual criticism are encyclopedic.
My disagreements with Lincoln are at the presuppositional level, namely that the letter must be deutero-Pauline because of certain linguistic and stylistic features. It seems at times that he wants to ascribe to "the writer" access to Paul's mind, almost as a doppelganger, but thoroughly and consistently rejects Pauline authorship. Lincoln would do well to consider more seriously the role of the amaneuensis in 1st century letter writing, as well as the amount of traditional material the writer employs before rejecting Pauline authorship.
Second, in his discussion of the passage on marriage (5:21-33) Lincoln falls into the hermeneutical sinkhole of postmodern relativism.
On the whole, though, Lincoln is a brilliant scholar whose work on Ephesians deserves every serious NT student's full attention.

Consistent in interpretatians and very good overall

The Word Biblical Commentaries have four sections, outside of the introduction, that carry one through the commentary. The first is the translation section. In this section the author give his own translation of the passage he is about to examine. The is followed by a notes section, which tells why the author chose to translate the way that he did. The next section is comments, which is handled in a verse by verse format. The final section is Explanation and in this section the author ties it all together.
I write as a Classical Pentecostal with a degree in theology. I thought that overall this was a very good commentary. I was not totally sold on the non-Pauline authorship, but I was impressed how the author was ever conscious that he had taken this stand and interpreted the book from the perspective of a generation after Paul. This really took the meaning away from the biographical section of the epistle, because the author has to try to account for and brace up his position throughout the explanation. If, however, Lincoln is correct about the authorship then it does bolster some Pentecostal positions, because such things as apostles and prophets would be shown to carry on after the first generation of apostles have passed on. As attractive as that is to a Pentecostal like myself I still was not sold on non-Pauline authorship. That aside this commentary is reliable and I recommend it especially for those who know Greek. If you do not know Greek then the benefit will not be as great, but there is enough in the comments and explanation section to benefit.

Great Commentary

Lincoln does a great job at clearly bringing out the content of this letter. It is a lengthy read, but overall it's a great commentary. I bought this commentary knowing Lincoln's view of non-pauline authorship, though I did not agree with it, I found it easier to overlook knowing this beforehand. Knowledge of the greek language, even minimal, is also necessary when reading this commentary. Otherwise the reader is not likely to get the fullest benefit from this text.

An Interesting Spin on the Movie, and a good start on the new Manga series.

While I have been asked: What do you think of the new BH6 Manga? Well my friends let me tell you it’s a good read. Let me warn you: Spoilers and grab a drink because for good science we are going in. All the characters we know and love are there; I will admit Fred is over the top bit we love him for it and Go-Go is more aggressive per-se. Hiro is the same genius we all know, he’s still the cocky prodigy with witty dialogue. But here is where the manga and the movie depart as they expand more on Hiro and Tadashi’s history as brothers. Tadashi’s relationship is expanded as more of a father figure/older brother as he sees the untapped potential Hiro has. We feel that Tadashi has to be an example to Hiro to look up too, as after the death of their mother and father; which is expanded upon on in the Manga of what took place. Tadashi explains that it was a car accident. He was walking home from school with Hiro when he heard the news from Cass, and on that day he had to grow up and mature to take care of his brother. This weight and responsibility is only magnified as Hiro relies on his brother to always be there. The manga conveys that Cass was pushed into a role of mother-figure immediately while she grieves on her sister’s death, as she was the only next of kin. It’s Up to Tadashi to cheer her up from her stress by making her an alarm clock that pops out a small little flower. But this is where I am going to veer off road to explain how this manga steers off and takes the material into a new direction as Haruki Ueno takes liberties with the story. We start off differently than the movie a few years later. Hiro is in a collage class with Tadashi at SFIT (being one of the youngest to ever attend), where he tinkers away at his latest invention: Mini-Thruster Rockets. The professor tries to challenge the class with a science equation, no one can answer as the students deem it almost impossible to answer. When the Professor sees Hiro he immediately challenges him, only for the professor to get outright humiliated and schooled on how his equation is wrong. Hiro is brash and is anti-social as he lacks in the communication department, lacking the self-confidence to talk to others. Tadashi then explains to Hiro that he needs a focus and tells him to participate in the science exhibition (like the movie, however he is not an underground bot-fighter). We then see Tadashi building Baymax. Tadashi explains that he built Baymax to be a brother figure to Hiro and watch over him, as he then ponders on how he is going to tell Hiro that he is going to transfer from SFIT to a medical college. When the exhibition is done, Hiro wins and he gets offered by Callaghan to join him alongside other prestigious students in robotics and military grade weaponry for the government. Seeing Hiro’s Micro-bots as a game changer in wars. Hiro declines, saying that it would take him away from his family, and most importantly his brother. Here Tadashi scolds him and tells him about him transferring, that he wanted Hiro to accept and do more with his life. Hiro takes this harshly and ignores his brother all day; going into an emotional distraught. Here we see Tadashi explaining that he wanted Hiro to be more independent and, saying that he was finding the right time to tell him and wants to reconsider the offer as Tadashi is called by Callaghan late in the night. This is where the fate of Tadashi is set. Hiro follows him and we see Tadashi conversing with Callahan on the dangers of his invention (the gateway portal device in the movie). However it is seen as unstable and if activated it could create an artificial black hole and Tadashi argues with him. As Callaghan activates it without considering the dangers. Tadashi tries to prevent Callaghan, only to be pulled in. Hiro tires to save his brother as he holds onto is hand when the device is fully active. Tadashi then tells Hiro that he is proud of him; and we get this moment where Hiro tells Tadashi that he wanted to be like him and this we get this flashback of Tadashi promising to their mother that he will take care of Hiro. In a final farewell he lets go in order to save his little brother. Hiro is there left traumatized and Callahan is nowhere to be seen. Here we get one whole page seeing Hiro crying, he is alone now. I will admit this whole scene alone has a lot of emotional gravitas than the movie as we go into a lot more depth of how Hiro is going through this, he does not eat for days, nor go outside; he wants to be alone. Hiro then meets Baymax the adventure begins. Overall the manga becomes a story of revenge, and when we get to the formation of Big Hero 6 Hiro goes to Tadashi’s friends to avenge him. They agree on the condition of Callahan is brought to justice. Then we get this wonderful scene of Fred just enjoying the idea and asks to name the team, he then goes into a monologue where they can give the people an ideal to strive towards. The manga ends with Callaghan’s back-story on his decent to madness, where he was going to activate the device to destroy San Fran as a whole. As he uses the micro bots to level the city we see that he has a sense of enjoyment of seeing the world burn. This is where we see the Big Hero 6 among the ruins stopping him from going any further. Callaghan (Now Yokai) then taunts Hiro that he will follow the same fate as his brother if he gets in the way. The story then ends on a cliffhanger. Haruki Ueno aimed for a more emotional story, and we get it here in a more; somewhat darker tone. I say as a whole I like the direction where it is going. But what do you guys think? Thanks for listening. Am I thinking too deep into this? Mind you this Manga focuses on: Hiro, Tadashi, and Callaghan exclusively. Foreshadowing the others in the second volume and flushing them out. I guess that's my one complaint. We get no explanation of why Callaghan is going insane, but I guess its like the movie and will tell readers about his daughter. Overall a good spin on the movie as a whole.

New manga series based off the hit movie!

The Big Hero 6 manga is based off the hit movie Big Hero 6 and it should be pointed out there are a lot of differences between the movie and the manga.
Without spoiling the storyline for you, the readers, here are some differences:
the manga shows Hiro looking much younger than his fourteen years and is a lot less mature than his movie counterpart. He is very shy and tries to cover that shyness by being a brat.
The storyline for volume one focuses more the relationship between Tadashi and Hiro, showing bits and pieces of their past and has extra chapter as to why Tadashi built Baymax.
Callaghan appears to look much younger and more handsome in this manga than his movie counterpart.
The characters display much more emotion and are shown to have more flaws than they had in the movie.
All in all, volume one of Big Hero 6 is a great start for a great new series for both fans and newcomers alike!

Brilliant Adaptation

This manga was fantastic! Yes, the plot is different from the movie and there are some small changes alongside very big ones, but overall the integrity of the story is still the same. The characters were very well drawn in a cool manga art style, the story was fast paced yet still has some very emotional moments, and the setting is as brilliant as it was in the movie. I cannot wait for the next manga in this series! Oh, and there is a bonus chapter at the end that gives you additional back-story on the characters. It's a very cool idea to turn this movie into a manga. Just keep in mind that it is not the same exact story as the movie, but this gives the series plenty of room to grow and continue to be a much longer series than a single plot line would allow for.

This book was well written. Bissoondath does an amazing job of describing the book page by page. The characters seem so real because he has described them so amazingly. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Jeff Coakley is a nationally rated Chess Master and onr of Canada`s leading coaches. He has been teaching chess to young people for 18 years, in Toronto and Halifax, as well as on the Internet. Many of his students have been national champions and competed successfully in international youth events. Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant.

You will not find this book up at your local B&N bookstore.

Rather than be disappointed, I am actually glad. I feel that anyone who gets rewarded with a treasure like this ought to have looked around or taken a little effort to know of its existence before they laid their hands on it!!!

I can't stop gushing about how good Coakley's books are for players ramping up to an intermediate level and want to be absolutely sure they have no holes in their chess knowledge. (I'm about USCF 1579 at the time of writing this and I feel that the exercise positions in this book have so much to offer me.)

The delivery of exercises ( 9 per page ) and the quality of the answers at the back are very impressive. A tactics book that has non "find the mate or find the best move to win" positions is a rarity these days.

His Number 9 position on each page offers a wealth of instruction if you haven't seen those positions before. I've even started to document those in my own training notes, as positions that I should know COLD in order to be competitive at my level.

Overall, one of the finest tactics+non-tactics exercise books I've seen.

Chess Tactics

The main part of this book consists of 100 pages of exercises with nine diagrams on each page. Three diagrams are devoted to checkmate problems; three are win material type of problems; one is a defensive problem ("White to move and not lose"); one problem is more general; and one problem is an endgame problem. The solutions are in the back of the book and are very detailed. They often give not only the winning line, but also the reason why other moves don't work. As a chess coach, I've looked at a large number of books which teach tactics, IMO this is perhaps the best I've seen for students

Superior Instruction for Lower Rated Players

This is part of an excellent series by Canadian chess instructor Coakley. This book contains tactics at a level that many lower rated players never master. You need to be able to SEE relatively simple tactics almost instantly at the board, and better yet, you need to see the possibility of those tactics before they occur. This book will help you with its well chosen examples and fine explanations. As a bonus, you get problems on strategy, defense, and endgames. The breakdown by category is 300 checkmates, 300 'win material' problems, and 100 each of strategy, defense, and endgame problems, all with insightful and detailed answers. If you are a relative novice, or if you are that typical adult player stuck for years (or decades!) in that 1200-1500 USCF range, serious study of this book could give your rating a real boost! Highly recommended.
